Deputy Commissioner K P Mohan Raj said, all Below Poverty Line (BPL) ration card holders in the district would get rice at Re 1 per kg from July 10 and sought the cooperation of Fair Price Shop owners and Grama Panchayat authorities for the success of the scheme.

After inaugurating a workshop for Fair Price Shop owners, organised to train them in implementation of the scheme, here on Monday, he said, the district administration has made all arrangements.

“Fair Price Shop owners should make arrangements to store rice, distribute and see to it that all beneficiaries get the benefit.

The district will get 97,000 quintal rice and 18,000 quintal wheat. Despite efforts to cover all economically backward families, some are yet to get their BPL cards.

The shops owners and GP authorities should see to it that they get their cards at the earliest. If any discrepancy is found in implementation of the scheme, strict action would be initiated against the erring person,” he said.

Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer U P Singh said, Fair Price Shop owners should inform GP presidents and secretaries while they transport their share of the quota of food items.
“Nobody should charge extra for food items. The shops should be opened as per schedule and serve the people properly,” he warned.

Deputy Director for Food and Civil Supplies Ka Rameshwarappa, Assistant Director Ramachandra and District Manager of Granary Corporation Vittal Rao were present.
