<p>The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked the Centre and several states to spell out measures they had taken to check adulteration of milk, calling it a “very-very serious” issue.<br /><br /></p>.<p>A bench of Justices K S Radhakrishnan and Pinaki Chandra Ghose observed that milk adulteration continues to occur in many parts of the country. <br /><br />“This is happening all over the country. It is very very serious matter. What actions have you taken in the matter,” the court asked, while hearing a PIL filed by Swami Achyutanand Tirth and seven others alleging that the sale and supply of adulterated milk and its by-products is posing serious health hazard to the people. <br /><br />The court directed states like Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand to file their responses within three weeks. <br /><br />It fixed the matter for hearing on July 31. The petitioners had also urged the court to issue direction to frame a comprehensive policy with regard to production, sale and supply of healthy, hygienic and natural milk for the citizens.</p>
