Head constable killed as lorry hits bike

S Suresh, 59, a head constable with the Electronic City police station, was killed when a lorry knocked him down from his two-wheeler on Begur Road on Wednesday evening.

Suresh, a resident of Kengeri and a native of Udupi, was on his way to the station when the accident occurred. The speeding lorry took a steep left turn and hit Suresh from behind killing him on the spot. The impact of the accident was such that Suresh was flung about 20 metres away.

Though he was rushed to the nearby Rajarajeshwari Hospital, he was declared brought dead. According to doctors, Suresh had not suffered any major external injuries except for some scratches. But he had suffered multiple fractures on the lower ribs. His lungs and liver were severely damaged in the accident.

The diver of the lorry abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. The Electronic City traffic police have registered a case and are investigating.

Suresh’s family had settled in Bangalore after his father started a small hotel. Suresh joined the police force in 1983 and worked as a constable at various police stations across the State and Vivek Nagar, HAL and Commercial Street police stations in the City. He was promoted as head constable in 2006 and was posted at Electronic City police station.
