Man climbs 50-foot-tall factory chimney demanding job

High drama was witnessed at UB Factory, Tandavapura Industrial Area (TANDIA), near here for 30 to 45 minutes on Thursday, when a 26-year-old youth climbed a chimney of the factory, threatening to kill self, demanding a job. However, he was pacified later.

Prakash, son of Kalasiddegowda of Kempisiddana Hundi in the taluk, claimed that the company should give job to a member of the family, according to an understanding between the factory and his grandmother Mariyamma, when the land was acquired. The company had bought 2.09 acres of land belonging to Mariyamma. Despite applying for job several times, the company had paid no heed.

On Thursday, around 10 am, Prakash climbed the 50 foot tall chimney through the stairs.
Security guards at the gate, who seem to have let him in only for his regular visit to the factory seeking job, were baffled due to the sudden development. Umashankar, human resources (HR) officer of the factory, told media, as per the understanding, the factory has already given job to 25 people. “They are being trained at JSS Softskills Training Institute.

Though Mariyamma’s land has been acquired, there is no mention of Prakash’s name in the ‘vamshavruksha’ (family tree). This makes clear that there is no provision to give job to Prakash. However, his applications will be looked into on humanitarian grounds,” he said.
