'Action against babus guilty of misappropriation'

Minister of State for Women and Child Development Umashree on Friday said the State government will take appropriate action against department officials found guilty of embezzling grants, once the Lokayukta submits its report.

In an interaction with reporters in Bangalore, Umashree said it was saddening that some department officials, entrusted with the responsibility of protecting the State’s culture, were misusing funds. She added the opinion of the theatre community will be taken before appointing a new director to Rangayana.

Earlier in the day, Umashree said Devadasis and sex workers should shun inferiority complex and return to the mainstream by utilising various welfare schemes being implemented by the government.
