Cops to get training in intelligence gathering

Last Updated 06 July 2013, 20:01 IST

The City police will have a few training sessions shortly to enhance abilities of the men in uniform to collect accurate intelligence.

“I must admit that we are still weak in gathering intelligence, piecing it together and constructing a proper picture. It’s high time we improve on this aspect considering terror threats to the City.

“We have decided to conduct a series of training sessions for our men to enhance their intelligence gathering abilities since the current methods are outdated,” Bangalore City Police Commissioner Raghavendra H Auradkar said during a media interaction at the Press Club of Bangalore here on Friday.

Referring to the technology-based initiatives, Auradkar said: “We will instal more CCTVs cameras in critical areas and also distribute hand-held electronic gadgets to policemen to track criminals and their activities.”

Community policing

He termed community policing as the effective tool to handle crimes especially when the force lacks enough strength. “To promote transparency and to keep tabs on the alleged human rights violations in police stations, I along with some senior colleagues will make surprise visits to stations,” the commissioner said. Auradkar admitted that the recovery percentage of stolen properties in the City has dipped during the last few years.

He said he would convene a coordination meeting of agencies such as traffic police, BBMP, BWSSB, BMTC, Bescom and BMRCL to address issues relating to traffic congestion, potholes, road humps, bad roads and incomplete and delayed infrastructure
projects.
