Engineer killed on unlit Old Madras Road

A 26-year-old man employed with a leading biotechnology firm was killed when his motorcycle rammed a stationary BBMP garbage lorry on Old Madras Road here on Saturday night. The stretch didn’t have proper streetlights.

Supreeth, a resident of Avalahalli, was returning home after work when he crashed his motorcycle into a BBMP garbage lorry parked on the right side of the road, a police source said.

The impact of the collission was such that his head banged against the lorry. Supreeth was rushed to a private hospital but doctors could not revive him.

Police sources said there were no proper streetlights on the road.

Moreover, the BBMP garbage lorry’s lights were not turned on to indicate to road users that it was parked. Supreeth might have crashed the motorcycle into the lorry as he had no time to react, a senior police officer said.

IT employee killed

In another accident, an IT professional from Bihar was killed when his motorcycle hit a road median on Sarjapura Road near Parappana Agrahara.

Abhishek Priyadarshan, 23, a resident of Kaigondanahalli, was returning home after visiting his friend at Doddatoguru when the accident occurred, police said and suspected that the victim was speeding.

He appeared to have lost control over the vehicle as it approached a road hump which he couldn’t spot, a police source said. The vehicle then hit the median and the victim suffered grievous head injuries. He was killed on the spot, the source added.

Priyadarshan did have a helmet but it was hung around his hand.

The victim was a software engineer at a leading firm and staying at a PG accommodation in Kaigondanahalli. His parents who live in Patna have been informed. Electronics City Traffic Police have booked a case.
