Aiming for a better tomorrow

New Goals

The Rotary Bangalore Diamond District’s installation ceremony of the new office-bearers was held in a grand manner in the City, recently. The event, which had breast cancer awareness as its theme, saw a hint of pink in almost everything — from the table setting and the pink soft drinks that were served to the dress code observed by the Rotarians, their families and guests.

The event started with fellowship and after the initial greetings, the event moved on to an elaborate formal ceremony with the sixth installation of the incoming president Mehnaaz Nadiadwala and her team. About the past year, past president Veena Hegde, said, “We’re proud to present the different awards that were achieved in the last year by the club and individuals. I also wish the incoming president and her team the best, and hope that they attain higher goals.” Veena also added, “Rotary Club provides a great platform for social service and more work, and I’m sure the new team is capable of that.”

The meeting moved on to district governor Rotarian KS Nagendra addressing the gathering with a tinge of humour. He looked across the room, smiled and commented about the dress code, “I’ve heard that when a lady demands, anything could happen but I didn’t know that when a lady demands, men would also go pink.”

He went on to congratulate the past team about their achievements, and encouraged the incoming president Mehnaaz with appreciative words. “I see so much joy, enthusiasm and motivation in Mehnaaz, and I hope that her pride in this position is translated to better efforts for the year to come,” said Nagendra.

Assistant district governor Rotarian Dr Pradeep Rao felt that of the many newest targets that the club should aim at, should be increased membership. Convinced about the capacities of the new president, Pradeep said, “The club is a very young one and is still in its infancy. Despite that, Mehnaaz has big plans for the new year, with fund-raisers and other services planned, which is a very good attitude towards things. She comes from an elite background, and despite that she has her feet on the ground, which encourages her to do more humanitarian work.”

Pradeep also said that he was convinced that the club would reach greater heights with the new leadership, and wished her all success. “Age doesn’t matter for achievements and that Mehnaaz has proved with what she does. And with the club including new members, there will be fresh blood coming in, which will contribute to the Rotary movements,” he concluded.

Mehnaaz felt humbled after the elaborate ceremony. “The first thing I did when I was installed as the president was take a humility pill,” she stated. She added that of her newest commitments would be the upcoming 5K run, which will be organised for breast cancer surgeries in aid for Kiran Mazumdar Cancer Research Centre. “The run will be on September 1, and I would like one and all to be a part of this noble cause,” she wrapped up.
