The Supreme Court on Monday sought to know the response from the suspended Gujarat police officer N K Amin on a plea by the CBI for cancellation of his bail in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case.

A three-judge bench presided over by Chief Justice Altamas Kabir issued notice to the officer after a counsel representing the CBI pointed out “errors” on a March 5 order of the Bombay High Court allowing release of the accused on medical ground.

The CBI counsel claimed that the High Court was wrong on concluding that the officer was not involved in the criminal conspiracy to kill Sohrabuddin and his wife, Kauser Bi, in 2005.

Notably, the suspended deputy SP is in judicial custody for his alleged involvement in Ishrat Jahan encounter case.

The court listed the matter for further hearing after four weeks. A number of senior police officers, besides then Home Minister Amit Shah are facing charges in the Soharabuddin Sheikh encounter case.
