The Centre has sought a report from the Bihar government on the damage caused to the Mahabodhi temple in the terror blasts that rocked the holy shrine on Sunday.

The temple appears on the list of World Heritage Sites of the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation.

“We have an immediate report from the Department of Tourism, Government of Bihar, on the damage caused to this World Heritage Site,” said a ministry official.

Union Minister of State for Tourism K Chiranjeevi strongly condemned the attack at the temple, saying that the holy place was an international symbol of peace, unity and human upliftment. “He deeply regretted the injuries caused to the pilgrims and damage to property caused by this attack,” said a statement from the ministry.
