The Yelahanka New Town police have arrested five persons in connection with the recent murder of a security guard of Seshadripuram College.

The arrested are Srinivas, 21, Sriram, 19, Manjunath alias Meke Manja, 19, and Vinod, 19, all residents of Attur Layout and Manjunath, 19, of Yelahanka New Town. They allegedly hacked Siddalingappa, a resident of Attur Layout, to death on July 5 over a property dispute.

Siddalingappa had an elder brother Siddagangappa. Two of the arrested, Srinivas and Sriram are the sons of Siddagangappa, said the police.

Siddalingappa allegedly grabbed the ancestral property and had not given their share to Siddagangappa's sons. He had ensured that his parents stood by his decision. After some discussion, Siddalingappa agreed to pay Rs 2.5 lakh to his nephews, but gave them only Rs 1.5 lakh. He delayed the payment of the remaining Rs one lakh. Besides, he allegedly had an affair with Siddagangappa's wife Sakamma. Upset over all these, Srinivas and Sriram decided to get rid of him, added the  police.

The  brothers connived with their associates and plotted Siddalingappa's murder. They trailed him when he went to drop his son at school at 9.30 am. They accosted him at Attur Layout while he was returning on his bike and attacked him with bats, sticks and other weapons, killing him on the spot, the police said.
