The preview to the film ‘Ship of Theseus’ by Anand Gandhi, which was held at ITC Windsor recently, saw a packed and excited gathering. The movie was presented to the guests by film-makers Kiran Rao and Anand Gandhi. As Sumeet Shetty, president of ‘Literati’, a book-reading club, conversed with Kiran Rao and Anand Gandhi, the audience had a better understanding of the film.

“It’s an unusual film. It was during the ‘Naya Film Festival’ in Mumbai that I was blown away by the film. I had no idea who the film-maker was but I was so excited after seeing the film that I wanted to shake hands with him. I loved the film and never thought I would be involved in it. It was only when I thought that Anand needed advice and assistance that I came into the picture,” Kiran said.

“I had heard somewhere that one must ask without feeling shy. And that’s exactly what I followed. I didn’t know that Kiran would come on board full time but it has been a huge privilege working with her,” Anand explained.

About Anand’s previous works, Kiran said that she was very excited to work with him after watching ‘Right Here Right Now’, a short film. However interrupting Kiran, Anand quipped, “That’s a bit dated, I hope people don’t see that one and judge this one.”
According to the team, the film has interesting ideas and concepts and is a mature piece of work. “We have never had any concern about the short-term economic returns. This has always been secondary. The only aim has been to make a film, which has a complete sense of integrity, wholesomeness, and a work of inspiration to create a sense of wonder,” said Anand.

Many were keen to know what actor, producer and husband of Kiran, Aamir Khan, had to say. Kiran said, “We had a screening and he loved it. A lot of his ideas really helped and we incorporated them.”

Kiran clarified that she does not have any production house.

“In this movie, I am just presenting a new idea. I am just trying to bridge the gap between Anand and the audience. I am happy working with AK Production,” she said.
Talking about the music, Anand said that they did not want it to be ‘prescriptive and ironic’.

Akshay S Baboo, one of the guests, said, “It was a wonderful evening. the trailers were intriguing enough to make me go for this film. It was interesting to listen to the Anand and the way the story was developed.”
