Nandita Gurjar to be back as HR head; to appoint a COO after 2 yrs; Vemuri sales head

Infosys co-founder N R Narayana Murthy, who had hinted at a number of changes in the company at the AGM held last month, is moving into the next phase of restructuring the company's top echelons.

Now, Murthy is bringing Nandita Gurjar back as HR head after CEO S D Shibulal had moved her into the Education and Research (E&R) wing, a source aware of the development said
.
Though Gurjar was shifted to the E&R wing in January this year, her proximity to Murthy will earn her back her earlier role as head of human resources, the source said, adding, “Gurjar is going to retain her portfolio in E&R and Infosys Leadership Institute and will get her HR position back following the reversal of Shibulal's decision by Murthy.”

Set up in early 2001, the Infosys Leadership Institute (ILI) is looking to mould the vision of Narayana Murthy through the creation of an advisory body that is expected to take strategic decisions affecting the company.

The decisions being taken by Murthy overstepping Shibulal was not really evident in the latter's statement at the company's first quarter results on July 12 this year. To a question about working with Murthy and charting the company's course for the next level of growth, Shibulal had said, “Murthy has always focused on superior financial performance. Our discussions have revolved around that aspect.”

Commenting on the development, CEO of executive search firm LeadershipCapital B S Murthy said that such changes would not really help the company make a turnaround at a stage when NRN will need to bring in people who have worked in global scenarios to fetch new business for the company.

Infosys is also understood to have earmarked current Head of Europe and Global Head of the Financial Services and Insurance Unit B G Srinivas for the post of Chief Operating Officer (COO) which has been lying vacant since Shibulal, the last of the founding members of the company, was made CEO in 2011.

“The changes are being made following the plan laid down by Murthy to bring the company back to its glory days, and as he had hinted at some quick and tough decisions at last month's AGM,” the source added.

Srikantan Moorthy, the current HR head, is to be made new head of manufacturing while Askok Vemuri will become global head of sales in place of Basab Pradhan who recently quit the company.

An emailed response from Infosys on Wednesday said, “These rumours are baseless and inaccurate.”

A jittery Infosys, which has so far been resisting all queries for information on the rejig after Murthy’s return, went to the extent of telling this reporter not to carry the news.
“We request you to not carry stories based on such information,” Infosys said.
