JOIN USSources close to the CM said that he had not applied his mind in this regard as there is no urgency to redraw the ministry with the BJP performing far better than its opposition in the Lok Sabha elections in the State.
The CM is for giving ministerial berth for Somanna, who quit as Congress MLA to join the BJP. Still, the CM may not go for a shake up of the ministry immediately. While dropping ministers, the CM should apply some logic. If the performance of the district ministers is taken into consideration, then the ministers in-charge of the districts where the party lost have to be sacrificed.
In Mysore, the BJP lost to the Congress. Mysore district in-charge Minister is Shobha Karandlaje. In the neighbouring Chamarajanagar too the Congress won. Minister Haratalu Halappa, a native of Shimoga, is in-charge Minister of the district. Halappa worked hard for the victory of B Y Raghavendra.
Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu is in-charge of Ramanagar district but Bangalore Rural constituency comes under Minister Bacche Gowda.
JD(S)’ Kumaraswamy defeated the BJP in Bangalore Rural. Kolar district in-charge minister Krishnaiah Setty and Kolar LS constiutency has gone to the Congress. Minister Revu Naik Belamagi himself lost the LS battle in Gulbarga.
“It is obvious that many senior ministers, who are close to the CM have failed to perform in districts which come under their purview. So the Chief Minister may find it tough to sacrifice them keeping the performance as the yardstick”, sources said.
There are five independent MLAs as ministers in the Yeddyurappa Cabinet. Of them, four have managed to get lead for the BJP in their respective constituencies. Only Minister Narendra Swamy’s presence as MLA in Malavalli has not worked in favour of the BJP nominee.
Of course, the only BJP candidate to lose deposit is L R Shivarame Gowda in Mandya.
“So it is difficult for Yeddyurappa to adopt performance of the ministers as the parameter. He may buy some more time before he reconstitutes the Cabinet. But when he does, he may come out with his own reasoning but not performance in the elections”, sources said.
