AP deputy CM in Delhi to discuss Telangana

Last Updated 22 July 2013, 21:36 IST

Andhra Pradesh (AP) Deputy Chief Minister Damodara Rajanarasimha left for New Delhi on Monday afternoon amid reports that he might stay overnight to discuss the Telangana statehood issue with senior Congress leaders.

In the wake of this development, state government employees from Andhra and Rayalaseema have warned legislators from these regions to quit in support of an undivided AP. A sense of urgency to ignite a major agitation in favour of undivided AP prevailed among the students joint action committee (JAC) and the employees JAC on Monday with reports that the Congress high command might split the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) into Andhra and Telangana Congress committees. The split is set to take place before announcing the decision on bifurcation of AP.

The students and employees JAC were also rattled to note that soon a special Assembly session will be convened to discuss and pass a resolution in favour of Telangana.

Rajya Sabha MP Palvai Govardhan Reddy, confident about a separate Telangana state, said the Congress leadership might split APCC before dividing the state. It is said that former APCC President D Srinivas will head the Telangana PCC.

The Congress high command has already set up a separate Telangana wing within the party by constituting the Telangana Region Congress Coordination Committee in 2001. The committee was active till the Congress came to power in 2004.
