Nine bands came together to pay tribute to heavy metal band ‘Metallica’ in the City, as part of the ‘Garage Jam’ event recently. Held at Sonido Musicals under the banner of ‘Obey the Master’, the bands belted out some of their best compositions. It was five hours of non-stop original music.

The lineup of bands included ‘Fundametal’, ‘Purple Revive’, ‘Errorz’, ‘Kill The Kratos’, ‘Tom Borah and Group’, ‘Leper Messiah’ and ‘Primal Abuse.’

Although the event started late, hardcore metal fans turned up in full strength to watch the performances.

‘Fundamental’ began their performance with ‘Nothing Else Matters’ and continued with ‘Seek and Destroy’ and ‘Creeping Death’, which are some of the popular tracks from ‘Metallica’.

“We also played one of our compositions ‘Thoughts’, which talks about the way people think about the world around them. This song is deeply inspired by the music of ‘Metallica’ and is also close to me as this is one of the first songs written by me,”
explains Sujay Sunil Kumar, drummer of ‘Fundametal.’ Sujay is a die-hard fan of ‘Metallica’.

“The band inspires a lot of young musicians like us to get together and perform. We like their energy when they are performing live and the depth of their music when we listen to their albums,” adds Sujay.

‘The Ways of the World’, comprising Tom Borah and Datta, is a two-member cover band that has performed around the City.

Tom explains that their music is also influenced by bands like ‘Metallica’,
‘Trivium’, ‘In Flames’ and ‘Stone Sour’.

“We are die-hard ‘Metallica’ fans and we believe we did justice to every song we performed by giving it our own touch,” says Tom.

The band performed a few pieces such as ‘I Disappear’, ‘Whiskey in the Jar’, ‘Unforgiven I and II Medley’, ‘Four Horsemen’, ‘Turn the page’ and ‘Fuel.’

About the show that brought so many bands together under one roof, Tom observes, “The show went well with all the bands giving their best. The crowd was screaming loud. ‘Garage Jam’ is becoming popular.”

The crowd was grooving to every beat.

Thomas, a student of NMKRV College and a hard-core metal band fan, says, “I’ve listened to almost all of ‘Metallica’’s pieces and most of the bands who performed during this show played some popular Metallica music and that made the evening
special.”

Sagar Singh, another member of the audience, feels, “There are so many bands playing across the City almost every other day but to hear the best of metal bands on one stage is a rarity. We got to hear some original music.”
