The bus was coming to Dehra from Nagrota Suriyan when it fell into the gorge near the Haripur Guler bridge, some 50 km from this district headquarter town.
“Thirty-five people were killed and 26 injured in the bus accident. Sixteen passengers died on the spot,” Sub-divisional Magistrate Rakesh Sharma said.
Eyewitnesses said the bus was overcrowded and the driver probably lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a turn.
State Transport Minister Mohinder Singh said the government has announced
Rs 1,00,000 compensation to the kin of the dead.
