A messaging app that understands the mood of India

Ever wonder what is the mood of your city? Now there is a messaging application to gauge a slew of emotions of your city from being happy, caffeinated, shopping to drinking.

It reveals the national capital is turning out to be the drinking capital with 43 percent of the people dedicating themselves to 'Boozing”!

The survey is based on the latest one million 'Mood Updates', shared by over five million 'hike' - a free cross-platform messaging application funded by Bharti SoftBank. - users across India. Hike currently has 24 unique moods. This research was also powered by Focus Group Discussions and quantitative surveys conducted by hike.

In Delhi, while 31 percent people are generally ‘Chilling’; the rest usually find themselves 'Driving' through Delhi traffic. Going by the pulse of the city, 42 percent Mumbai residents are usually ‘Stuck in Traffic’ and 30 percent mood updates hinting ‘Insomniac’.

Ahmedabad emerges as the happiest amongst the lot with 57 percent users using ‘Happy’ as their mood update and 27 percent residents of this city are watching TV while 21percent have stuff to keep them ‘Busy’ with business.

It seems the techies are high on caffine as in Bangalore, over 44 percent users put the status as ‘Caffeinated’ with another 29 percent usually ‘Gaming’.

Down south the 'Caffeinated' spirit remains consistent as Chennai also clocks 27 percent people in that bracket with over 43 percent of it residents 'Studying'. Big on movies, 30 percent of the residents are also ‘Watching Movies’.

Giving close competition to happy residents of Ahmedabad, Hyderabad has over 31 percent ‘Happy’ mood updates and 52 percent are always ‘Running Late’!

Kolkata is the top shopping destination for women with over 46 percent maintaining ‘Shopping’ as their updates. Interestingly, the city does not shy away from expressing its love with 27 percent updates hinting at ‘In Love’ while the balance is busy ‘Studying’.

In Jaipur, 59 percent people are ‘Chilling’ with 21 percent people each 'Watching TV' or “Shopping'.

"Its amazing to carve out trends of the different cities of India. hike has 24 moods - from Happy all the way to Hungover. The hike moods are just delightful. Expect us to add a lot more over the next few months," said Kavin Bharti Mittal, product and strategy head, Bharti SoftBank.
