'Bidadi township project not now'

The integrated Township Project at Bidadi in Ramanagara district will be taken up after the passage of the Land Acquisition and Rehabilitation and Resettlement Bill (LABR) by the Parliament, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah informed the Legislative Assembly on Thursday.

Replying to a call attention notice by H C Balakrishna (JD-S), Siddaramaiah said four companies - Reliance Infrastructure and Rajesh Exports, Hindustan Construction Corporation and GVK Group, have evinced interest in the project and submitted their Request for Qualification to BMRDA, the executing agency.

Siddaramaiah said once the Parliament clears the LABR, the government can decide on the
formula for land acquisition and compensation packages.

Balakrishna said the previous government had declared Bidadi as a “red zone” and farmers were finding it difficult to sell their land. Delay in passage of the bill will affect the interest of farmers, he pointed.

He requested the chief minister to remove Bidadi from the “red zone classification” which has been in force from 2009. If the government converts the zone from red to yellow, then at least land could be sold by farmers, the member said.

Siddaramaiah said he would consider the member’s point and take an appropriate decision.
