Following a complaint from the public about sand being sold at exorbitant price, Deputy Commissioner C Shikha on Friday cracked a whip on the erring transport operators.

Following the intervention of top officer of the district, nearly 303 loads of sand was
distributed complying with the  price fixed by public works department (PWD).

Deputy Commissioner C Shikha told Deccan Herald, there were complaints from several public for the past two days about per load of sand being sold at Rs 16,000, double the rate of Rs 8,000 fixed by the authorities.

A sand lorry operator after procuring the permit by paying a DD of Rs 4,600 towards the load has to sell the same at Rs 8,000 (including other expenses in the depots).

To set right the problem, the jurisdictional Nazarbad police were asked to keep a tab on the lorries passing through the checkpost on Mysore-T Narsipura road.

When some of the sand lorries were stopped on suspicion, the drivers and owners showed some resistance. They later budged, the deputy commissioner said.
