Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will offer ‘bagina’ at the Krishnarajasagar reservoir in Srirangapatna taluk, Mandya district, on August 1, according to sources.

The district administration faced a problem conducting the ritual due to enforcement of the poll code, in view of the Lok Sabha byelections to be held in Mandya district on August 21.

Deputy Commissioner B N Krishnaniah and the secretary of the Department
of Water Resources had written to the Election Commission seeking permission to allow the chief minister to offer prayers to River Cauvery at the KRS.

The Commission has now given permission for the ritual to be conducted, but with certain conditions. Leaders participating in the ceremony are not allowed to make political speeches and the officers posted on election duty are banned from taking part in the ritual.
