Imbibe, practise non-violence and harmony: Dalai to Indians

Last Updated 29 July 2013, 06:25 IST

Observing that relationship between India and Tibet is like "guru and shishya" (teacher and disciple), Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama has urged Indians to imbibe and practise its ancient values of non-violence and religious harmony as propagated by leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi.

"Great leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela followed 'ahimsa' as it is the power of truth and a sign of strength", Dalai Lama said last night.
He was speaking at the inauguration of a Tibetan pavilion at Shivaji Maharaj Museum of Indian History at Vadgaon-Shinde near here.

"The relationship between India and Tibet is like guru and shishya as Buddhism had originated in India," he said, adding that the man-made divisions of caste, creed and colour were impediments for peace in the world.

The pavilion displays illustrations of Tibetan history spanning last 60 years.
Dalai Lama also released a book "Many scriptures One Wisdom" penned by Sindhi spiritual leader Dada J P Vaswani on the occasion of his 95th birthday yesterday.
Bollywood actor Aamir Khan was among other prominent personalities who attended the function.
