The South-East Division police have arrested two brothers from Manipur in connection with the recent murder of a super bazaar employee. The arrested have been identified as Huidrom Pappu Singh alias Pappu, 22, and his younger brother, a juvenile.

Shamsheer, 28, an employee at Maa Bazaar in Munekolala, was found dead with his throat slit on July 5. According to police, Pappu and his brother killed Shamsheer and attacked his colleague Shabbir. The victims and the assailants were working together at the super bazaar. All the four were provided accommodation at their employer’s home - SR Plaza in Munekolala. The brothers escaped to Imphal after committing the crime.

The City police had constituted a special team to investigate the case. “Manipur is an insurgency-infested state and it is difficult for our men to conduct investigations and make arrests there. But Additional Commissioner (Law and Order) Kamal Pant and other senior officers were in regular contact with higher officials in Manipur. We were able to arrest the two with the help of local police,” City Police Commissioner Raghavendra H Auradkar said. The brothers were arrested from their native village, Sejung, Imphal.

Interrogation of the arrested revealed that the victims were abusing them racially. Shamsheer is said to have beaten up the brother of Pappu over a trivial issue, two days before the incident.
