Three men who robbed cop, friend arrested

Ashok Nagar police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested three men who allegedly robbed Girish, a sub-inspector of police, and his friend Haridasulu recently.

The suspects are Gautam, 22, a resident of Mission Road; Karthik, 21 of JP Nagar sixth phase, and Vasudev, 23, a resident of JP Nagar seventh phase. The fourth suspect is at large. Police also recovered a dagger, a revolver and a motorbike from them.

“We collected information from informants and closely followed a few suspects. We arrested the three after confirming their involvement in the incident,” said the Ashok Nagar police inspector.

Similar offences

The suspects were involved in similar offences in Basavanagudi, Tilaknagar and the Silver Jubilee Park area. They took to crime in 2008 and were involved in murder and extortion cases, police said.

Girish, officer on other duty in the office of the Deputy Commissioner (Central) at Cubbon Park, and Haridasalu, 36, a Royal Bank of Scotland staffer, were returning home after having dinner at a restaurant past midnight on July 20 when a bike rider waylaid the car on Rhenius Street near Richmond Park and accused Girish of indulging in rash driving.

Soon, three others joined him and asked Girish and his friends to hand over valuables on them.

They snatched Rs 9,000 in cash and two cellphones from them at gunpoint. They used a pistol that had dummy bullets and opened two rounds of fire. Haridasalu sustained injuries in his thigh and had been treated at Mallya Hospital.

Girish has been transferred to the Mahalakshmipuram police station.
