Cycle jatha demanding carry over system from August 7

A cycle jatha will be taken to Bangalore, to bring the issue of carry over system in diploma courses to the notice of the state government, said student K Bharath.

Polytechnic college students from across the state will arrive Chikmagalur on August 1 to take part in a protest. The protest convention will be held district maidan.

He said the Department of Technical Education should continue the carry over the system for admission to the third and fifth semesters of polytechnic courses that was followed in the academic year 2012-13 for the academic year 2013-14 also.

Considering the interests of the students, the government should take a decision on the carry over system. He said that the Department of Technical Education had passed an order last year, permitting only students who had failed in four or less than four subjects to get entry into the third and fifth semesters of polytechnic course. However, when the students challenged the order in the court, the High Court had directed the government to allow students, who had failed in less than 10 subjects, to get enrolled in the fifth semester in 2012-13.

Unfortunately, for the academic year 2013-14, the government had decided to allow only the students who had failed in four or less than four subjects to the third and fifth semester.

“If the government fails to take a decision on carry over system, then we will hold dharna in front of houses of MLA, MLC and MP. The cycle jatha will be taken from Chikmagalur to Vidhan Soudha on August 7. We will gherao Vidhan Soudha, demanding carry over system,” he said.

About 32,000 students who have failed in more than four subjects are not admitted to third and fifth semester. As a result, the students are forced to sit at home,” he said.

He said the students are not given proper guidance on what books to read for the examination. As a result, majority of them fail in the examinations.
“There are no equipment in the laboratories. Old motors are being asked to repair as a part of the practical classes. Only 50 marks portion are taught in the colleges. The rest have to be learnt by ourselves. There are no qualified teachers to teach in the colleges,” he said.
