In view of the “bandh” called by anti-Telangana protesters in the Andhra Pradesh, the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation of in the Villupuram division on Wednesday cancelled all its services to the neighbouring state considering the safety of passengers.

“Even the Andhra Pradesh government has cancelled all its bus services to our side,” said an official from the transport department.

According to him, more than 50 bus services usually ply to nearby cities in Andhra Pradesh, like Tirupathi, Nellore, Puttur and Cuddapah. “However, the situation in these places is tense. Therefore, we have cancelled all services from yesterday (Tuesday) night itself,” said the official.

Meanwhile, the yearly “Aadi Kirthikai” festival is under way at the Tirutani Murugan temple, located on the Tamil Nadu-Andhra Pradesh border, where pilgrims from both states visit regularly.

However, due to the unrest, most pilgrims from the Andhra Pradesh side are finding it difficult to attend the festival.

“We will resume the bus services once we get a green signal from Andhra Pradesh side,” said the transport official.
