Anti-naxal operations gather momentum

As many as 1,500 policemen are combing the forests in Malnad region in what is being termed as the largest anti-naxal operation in the region so far. The personnel of Anti-Naxal Force, Karnataka State Reserve Police, and District Reserve Police led by Superintendents of Police of respective districts, are conducting the operation.

Of the 16 teams in Chikmagalur district, 10 are in Udupi, six in Shimoga and four teams are operating in Dakshina Kannada district. Each team comprises nearly 30 personnel. The personnel from Greyhounds, specially trained in Andhra Pradesh, are also taking part in the search.

A control room has been set up in Sringeri and all search teams are provided with Global Positioning System. The objective of the system is to prevent the criss-crossing of two police teams.

The combing is being conducted on the basis of the information collected by Anti-Naxal Force and State Intelligence Agencies. A meeting of Anti-Naxal Force was held in Karkal, recently.
