Directors for milk societies elected unanimously

With no competition for the directors’ posts of the eight milk producing societies in the district, all the candidates who had filed their nominations for the posts were elected. As a result, election for the directors posts scheduled for Sunday has been cancelled.

The process of electing new directors for Maragodu Milk Producers’ Society in Madikeri taluk, Nandipura, Handli, Hudugur, Siddhalingapura, Shirangala, Koodumangalur and Guddehosur milk producers’ society in Somwarpet taluk was completed on Saturday. It is for the first time, responsibility was shouldered on the election commission to conduct election for the milk producers’ society in the district. The election was scheduled for Sunday.

However, with no competition for the directors posts for any of the society, the officers of the co-operative societies deputy registrar’s office declared that all the members who had filed nominations as elected. The details of the elected directors is likely to be announced on Monday or Tuesday. As per the recent amendment to the Co-operative Societies  Act, the presidents and vice-presidents for the society will be elected within 15 days of electing the directors. Earlier, the term of the  directors was two and half years, but now it has been extended to five years.
