Jackson's funeral cost $1 million

The ‘Thriller’ hitmaker was interred at the Forest Lawn cemetery amid much media hype on September 3 and the costs of the the star studded ceremony were born by the pop icon’s estate, according to court documents unsealed on Wednesday.

According to the documents, the funeral cost $ 1.09 million. Most of that money went to Forest Lawn for various costs. The pop singer’s remains were placed in a crypt in the Holly Terrace section of the mausoleum, a massive building that is the final resting place for stars from Hollywood’s golden age, including Jean Harlow, Carole Lombard and Clark Gable.

A judge approved the cost of the burial in September, but the records were not unsealed until Wednesday.

Jackson’s mother, his brother, Randy, and sister, Janet, were involved in the planning.
Lawyers for Jackson’s mother applied to the estate’s administrators and were granted $ 1 million to pay for costs that included burial, flowers, cars, security and a post-funeral dinner.
