A 47-year-old man allegedly strangled his wife to death at Krishnareddy Layout, Govindashetty Palya on Saturday night.

Lokesh, 21, a cashier at a private hotel, said in his complaint that his father Srinivasappa, 42, killed his mother Ratnamma, 38, and absconded.

After returning from home at night, Lokesh said, he found the main door of the house open and lights were switched off. When he went inside and switched on the lights, he found Ratnamma lying on the floor of the room, bleeding from her mouth and nose. He rushed her to a nearby private hospital, where she was declared brought dead, Lokesh said in his complaint with Parappana Agrahara police.

The family hailed from Agalimandalam, Ananthpur district, Andhra Pradesh and had settled in the City many years ago. Ratnamma was working as a housekeeping staff at Infosys and Srinivasappa was jobless and alcoholic.

Lokesh said in the last couple of months his parents were constantly bickering over trivial issues and his father used to beat up his mother. Lokesh suspected the couple picked a quarrel which ended in her death. Srinivasappa might have fled from the house after the incident, he added.

Police said that there were marks on her neck to suggest that she was strangulated to death with bare hands. She sustained a minor head injury which, the police suspect, she sustained when he banged her head onto the wall. There were blood stains on the wall too. The police have registered a murder case and are on the lookout for Srinivasappa.
