Services to be extended to 55 RTOs
Last Updated 11 November 2009, 18:07 IST

Launching the State-wide service at the Vidhana Soudha here, Minister for Transport R Ashoka said, due to rapid increase in vehicles and their registrations, a large number of the public continue to frequent the Regional Transport Offices (RTOs). “To minimise this, the Department will provide the documents applied for to their address at a cost of Rs 25” he said.

Similar to the Passport delivery system, the department will collect the self-addressed postal cover/envelope from the applicant/owner, while receiving applications from them. After the documents are processed, the RTO will pass them over to the postal service, who will deliver the covers to the address within two days.  According to the Transport Department, out of the registered 85 lakh vehicles in the State, 35 lakh vehicles are registered at RTOs in the City alone. Transport Commissioner Bhaskar Rao said this system will bring in more transparency in the administration of the Department and help curb the menace of middlemen.

At present, the Speed Post Service is available for issue of new Smart Card driving license applications and registration certificates. This service will be extended to all 55 RTOs in the State. The department will install franking machines at RTO’s to expedite the process.
