'Police should have up to date knowledge of laws'

Speaking on ‘Flaws in issuing the warrant’ at a programme organised by the District Legal Services Authority in association with Udupi District Bar Association and District Police Department here on Thursday, he said that the investigation process involving the statement recordings and confession statement recordings should be taken care of to avoid unnecessary hassles.

The officer who handled the case in the initial phase should be permitted to continue as investigative officer till the judgment is out on that particular case. The age old procedure is followed even today by the police officers to register the complaint. It should be avoided and the officer should be equipped with the knowledge of new changes that is taking place in the legal scenario. He should handle each case based on the guidelines prescribed, he added.

District and Sessions Judge K B Chengappa presided. DySP Jayanth Shetty, Bar Association Former President Mattar Ratnakar Hedge and others were present.
