DSS members stage protest

They vent ire against delay in meeting their various demands

The members were protesting against the failure of the assistant commissioner in meeting the various demands of the dalits and the people of Chikkaballapur taluk.
The members stated that the DSS had organised a protest in front of the assistant commissioner’s office on August 12 seeking the distribution of Bagair Hukum cultivation title deeds and also the distribution of free sites among the dalits and the poor families belonging to S Gollahalli, Namilagurki, Manchabale, Theernahalli villages of Chikkaballapur taluk.

On that day, Assistant Commissioner G V Seenappa had called a meeting of the Dalit leaders and had assured that their demands would be soon met.

Though three months have passed after the protest, so far, none of the demands have been met with, the protesters expressed.

Until and unless the demands of the people are met, the assistant commissioner will not be allowed to go inside the office, the protesters demanded. They shouted slogans against the assistant commissioner and urged that G V Seenappa, who was adopting an anti-dalit stand be transferred elsewhere.

Incomplete work

As many as nine dalit members belonging to Talahalli village of Chikkaballapur taluk should be distributed Bagair Hukum cultivation title deeds. The incomplete road project in Angatta village, which was undertaken under the Gram Sadak Yojana, should be completed soon. The farmers who were tilling the 80 acres of Gomala land in Shrirampura village should be provided with the cultivation title deeds of these lands, the protesters urged.

They further demanded that the statue of Dr B R Ambedkar should be installed in Chikkaballapur town. And also, action should be initiated against the culprits who were responsible for atrocities on the dalits in Nallappanahalli village.

Also, the caste and income certificates should be distributed not just in the Nemmadi Centres, but also in the taluk office too. The services of the daily wage employees serving in the Social Welfare Department and also the Disabled Welfare Department should be regularised, the DSS members stated.

Sufficient number of doctors and staff members should be appointed in the 250-bed Government Hospital, the members further urged.

State Organising Co-ordinater of the DSS Sudha Venkatesh, District Unit’s M Venu, Adinarayanappa, Gangadhar, Narasimhaiah, Lakshmanraju, Narayanswamy, Anjenamma, Gangadhar Goutham, M Ramu, M Shrinivas, Shrinivasaiah, Muniraju, Munikrishna, Channappa, Nagaraju, Anjenappa and several others participated in the protest.
