Parking fee hike gets BBMP Council nod

The BBMP Council on Wednesday gave its nod to steep hike in parking fee in the Central Business District (CBD) as recommended by the Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT), a subsidiary of the Karnataka government.

Categorising the CBD in three packages namely A, B and C, the BBMP intends to fix parking fee on an hourly basis. People who park vehicles in areas under Package A will have to pay a heavy fee.

Deccan Herald had carried a report on Tuesday listing out the new parking rates per hour.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, BBMP Commissioner M Lakshminarayana said: “We have only invited tenders now.” The commissioner said there is no  possibility of taking public opinion before implementing the new policy.

Roads under 3 packages

Package A: Subedar Chatram Road, Avenue Road, Race Course Road, Commercial Street, MG Road, Cunningham Road, Brigade Road, Raja Ram

Mohan Roy Road, Kasturba Road, Residency Road, Lalbagh Road, NR Road and Dispensary Road.

Package B: SP Main Road, Dhanvanthari Road, Nrupatunga Road, part of Kasturba Road, Palace Road, part of SC Road, Seshadri Road, District Office Road, Laidas Marg Road, Link Road, Ramachandra Road, Railway Parallel Road, Ali Askar Road, St John’s Church Road, Kensington Road, Veerapillai Street, Ibrahim Saheb Street, Meenakshi Koil Street, Seppings Road, Dharmaraja Koil Street, Haines Road, Hospital Road, Kamaraj Road, Gangadhar Chetty Road, Wood Street, Castle Street, Brunton Road, Lavelle Road, St Marks Road, Church street, Grant Road, Pampa Mahakavi Road,
