Sub-committees indecisive about Dasara festivities

CM promised an extravaganza, but dist admin lacks pace

While hopes are of a cultural extravaganza to unfold as promised by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and district-in-charge minister V Sreenivas Prasad, the progress of works necessary for the same, has left a lot to be desired.

Considering the progress of works done, indications are that the district administration will have to be forced to make some hasty decisions during the last couple of days, as repair of roads, selection of artistes for cultural programmes and others are still incomplete.

The decision making bodies constituted for other activities during Dasara are undecided on which artistes to invite. While some sub-committees such as Yuva Dasara and Yuva Sambrama sub-committees are yet to finalise the budget for the programmes held, a few, such as the Culture and Bhajan sub-committee have found that the budget allocated to them were not enough.

These aspects came to the fore in several press meets of the sub-committees held around the city in the last two days.

Dasara Special Officer and Deputy Commissioner C Shikha, speaking to Deccan Herald, said that tentative plans for all sub-committees and the activities they will conduct has been finalised. “Even before the sub-committee comprising of non-official members were formed, we had chalked out all the necessary details for the celebration of Dasara in the background,” she said. Sub-committees only have to finalise the events, she said.

On sub-committees seeking additional budgets to organise programmes, she said that the budgets for various sub-committees were fixed depending on the expenditures last year. It is unlikely that budget amount will be increased. The sub-committees will have to manage with the budget, she said.

She added that all the necessary details for Dasara celebrations will be finalised well before Dasara.
