Apparently depressed over family problems, a Delhi Police sub-inspector posted with the security wing shot himself dead using his service revolver in Chanakyapuri on Wednesday morning.

Police have not found any suicide note from the spot.

However, after talking to victim’s friends and family members they suspect he committed suicide over family issues.

Kaptan Singh, 57, lived in outer Delhi’s Kanjhawala, and was posted with the security wing for the last two years.

One of his sons also works with Delhi Police and posted in another police district.

The incident took place around 6.30 am. Singh was on duty at Security Lines, said police.
Hearing the gunshot, one of Singh’s colleagues rushed towards the spot only to discover him lying in a pool of blood.

Singh was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital where doctors pronounced him brought dead.

His body has been preserved at the hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.

He shot himself in the temple from the left and the bullet passed through his head. Police have recovered the fired bullet from the spot.

Police said so far investigations revealed that Singh was depressed over some personal issues, including financial problems.

“We are taking statements of the victim’s family and friends to exact reason behind the extreme step,” said an officer.
