Lollipop Man to help schoolkids cross roads

Last Updated 20 September 2013, 19:17 IST

To ensure safety of schoolchildren in the vicinity of schools, Bangalore Traffic police will introduce ‘Lollipop Man,’ a kind of service prevalent abroad.

“Lollipop man is a person wearing an orange/green reflective overcoat with a ‘stop/schoolchildren crossing’ sign board and regulates the vehicles in front of the school, so that children can safely cross the road,” an official press release said.

The person will undergo a one-day training at the Traffic Training Institute on signalling. He shall also teach the schoolchildren the traffic rules.

The person will be responsible for safe boarding/alighting of children into/from a school bus or other vehicles, the release added.

“The scheme will be implemented on a pilot basis at the Bishop Cotton Girls’ School as they have already identified a person to be trained by our department. We have identified 118 schools to implement the programme and we urge schools to participate in the programme,” the release said.
