BJP to charge Rs 10 for Modi's B'lore rally

The State BJP unit is charging Rs 10 as entry fee for its workers to attend a public rally to be addressed by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in Bangalore next month.

The BJP had collected Rs five from the party workers when Modi, its prime ministerial candidate, addressed a rally in Hyderabad. The party is collecting Rs five as entry fee for the rally that Modi is addressing in Bhopal on September 23. But the fee is going to be double for the Bangalore rally.

Usually political parties collect enrolment fees, but nothing for the rallies. However, in the case of Sangh Parivar outfits, it is not uncommon to collect an entry fee.

M H Sridhar, media co-convenor, State BJP, said, “Usually Sangh Parivar collects a very nominal fee from its members for seminars and workshops. The Jan Sangh too used to collect this. The same is being revived now. Making workers purchase tickets will help us understand their commitment to the organisation, Modi and the party’s ideologies.”

Sridhar said the entry passes will be sold online too. In all probability, Modi will address a rally in the city in the third week of October. The venue is yet to be decided. BJP leaders Venkaiah Naidu and H N Ananth Kumar will share the dais with Modi, he said.
