Boy drowns in sump

A six-year-old boy drowned at an under-construction sump in Vinayakanagara, Malathalli, on Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as Shivakumar, youngest son of Marappa and Bheemavva. The family, which hails from Manvi, Raichur, was working at an under-construction building in Vinayakanagara.

They were living in a makeshift shed on the construction site.

The accident took place when the couple was inside the shed and Shivakumar was playing outside. The boy died after slipping into the water sump which was left open. Tavarekere Police have registered a case of death due to negligence against the owner of the building and are investigating.
