A police inspector, attached to Chikkajala Traffic police station, has been suspended on the charge of dereliction of duty, as he had not carried out a fair investigation into an accident.

A senior police officer said, “Jagadish, the police inspector, was suspended as he failed to conduct a fair investigation into an accident in which a man was killed. Due to his negligence, an innocent man would have been jailed. Based on a tip-off, we went to the police station and the incident came to light upon enquiry.”

According to the police, Bhavesh, an engineering student and son of Dinesh, a textile merchant in Chickpet, was found driving his car rashly on May 20. He lost control and rammed the car it into a two-wheeler near Devanahalli. The pillion rider, Ramachandra, a private company employee, died on the spot, while his friend Manoj, the bike rider, sustained severe injuries. Bhavesh fled the spot after abandoning the car. The police, who visited the spot, seized the vehicle. Based on the registration number of the vehicle, they went to Dinesh’s house and asked him to surrender. But Dinesh told the police that his driver had committed the crime and was absconding. He promised to look for the driver and bring him to the police station.

The next day, Dinesh took one Teja to the police station and told the police that he was the driver. The inspector arrested Teja and booked him under IPC Section 304 (A).

“After receiving information about the incident, we went to the police station and interrogated Teja, who revealed the truth. Teja said he was made to surrender forcibly and was promised money. They also told him that they would get him out on bail at the earliest. The inspector was questioned and he admitted his mistake,” the police added.
