Dog dies while saving 4-year-old boy from speeding car

A 'hero' dog has died after he saved a 4-year-old boy in US by pushing him away from the path of a speeding car.

Simon, a 36.2 kg Boxer, pushed his visually impaired owner Dave Furukawa's son to safety, while being struck in the process by the vehicle.

"This is true loyalty and courage," said Furukawa.

Furukawa was walking his son, Will, to school in Atlanta when a red Chrysler ran through the stop sign and hit the pooch as they crossed a street last week, NBC affiliate WXIA-TV reported.

However, the brave dog bounced back up in time to push Will out of the way, witnesses said.

"What people have said is that Simon either got up or jumped out, and pushed my son out of the path of the car," said Furukawa.

Witnesses lifted Will and ran him down the street to his mother. Simon went with them, the report said.

Family members rushed Simon to an emergency vet clinic, but the boxer died on the way.
