Many of the sub-committees entrusted with key responsibilities during Dasara, it appears, have failed to deliver. One such committee is the Accommodation and Cleanliness sub-committee.

The sub-committee had announced the setting up 50 temporary toilets at important tourist spots. Not only has it failed to meet the deadline, the works on setting up the toilets are nowhere close to beginning.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Lokanath, Assistance Commissioner of Mysore City Corporation and Working President of Accommodation and Cleanliness sub-committee said that the tender process was still in progress and Engineering division of MCC was handling the same.

Mobile toilets

The mobile toilets will be similar to the ones which were introduced during the Panchalinga Darshana, at Talkad in 2010. The idea was to take the assistance of the UGD wing which would clean the toilets once every few minutes, to avoid any inconvenience to the public, he said.

Lokanath said that though the committee had identified the places for installing mobile toilets, the spots on the procession route was yet to be decided. “A clear picture will be available by Monday,” he added.

According to him, the budget sanctioned for the sub-committee is Rs 10 lakh, which included payment for pourakarmikas, temporary toilets and others.

When contacted, Krishna, Superintendent Engineer of MCC, conveniently passed on the buck to one of the contractors Ramachandra, who in turn said that the works would be completed in a “day or two”.

He said that water facility would be provided by placing water tanks near the toilets, followed by round-the-clock cleaning. In all, there will be 47 urinals and 27 toilets for both men and women.

Locations

The places identified are Scouts and Guides grounds, J K Grounds, K R Circle (behind Garuda Mall), Kuppanna park and M G Road (vegetable market), he added.
