Jayanti celebrated with verve

'Valmiki first person to propagate women empowerment'

PWD Minister, Dr H C Mahadevappa described Valmiki as the ‘father of Indian culture’, here on Friday.

He was speaking at Valmiki Jayanti celebrations jointly organised by district administration, zilla panchayat, Mysore City Corporation, Mysore Urban Development Authority and others at Kalamandir premises.

He said that Valmiki was the first person to propagate women empowerment. His greatest work ‘Ramayana’ was helpful in uniting several communities in the past, he said.

MP A H Vishwanath, speaking at the occasion said that there was a need for comparative studies of the works of Valmiki and B R Ambedkar. 

Prior to the programme, a grand procession was taken out to mark Valmiki Jayanthi celebrations. The celebrations were inaugurated at Kote Anjaneya Temple in the city by offering floral tributes to a portrait of Valmiki. Folk dance forms such as Nandi-dwaja kunita, Soligara kunitha and other forms were performed at the procession

MLA’s Vasu, G T Devegowda, MLC Siddaraju and Deputy Commissioner C Shikha participated at the inaugural held near the temple.
