Withhold mid-year transfer of BEOs: BJP

The State BJP on Monday demanded that the chief minister withhold the transfers of 223 Block Education Officers in the education department effected last week.

Addressing a press conference in Bangalore, BJP leader and former minister Visvesvara Hegde Kageri said the mid-year transfers were in violation of rules and regulations.

Kageri said the mass transfers of the senior level officers effected on October 19 was unprecedented in the history of the education department. “The government has assured that all general transfers would end by July 31. Transfer of so many officials during the middle of the academic year smells of suspicion of money power and political pressure,” Kageri said.

Besides, the rule that not more than six per cent of the total staff in a department can be transferred in an year had been violated, he alleged. Kageri urged the chief minister to immediately intervene and withhold the transfers.
