A 52-year-old real estate businessman from Andhra Pradesh shot himself dead with his licensed revolver at his office in Vidyaranyapura here on Monday, reportedly due to mounting debts.

Suresh Babu, who settled down in the City long ago, allegedly shot himself dead around 3.45 pm, with a licensed revolver which he had obtained for personal security, police said. The victim’s son, Kuldeep who reached office around 4.15 pm, was stunned to find his father lying in a pool of blood and the revolver lying nearby.

Babu, who owned Apoorva Apartment in Dodda Bommasandra and ran an office in the same building, had run into financial difficulties in the last few months and his debts had mounted. As his efforts to avoid bankruptcy failed, he reportedly took the revolver along when he left for office where he eventually shot himself dead, police explained.

The deceased was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. The police shifted the body to M S Ramaiah Hospital for a post-mortem, police added.

“We have registered a case of suicide. The preliminary investigation has revealed it is suicide and there is no foul play. He may have taken the extreme step due to financial difficulties. We are gathering more details and would question a few people in this regard,” Sandeep Patil, DCP (North), said. Babu was married and had two sons.
