“There are lot of complaints from the public alleging corruption in taluk administration. Officers therefore should discharge their duties honestly,” he said at the Taluk Panchayat progress review meeting held here on Tuesday.
Taking officials to task from the beginning of the meeting itself, the Taluk Panchayat president said that he has been in receipt of complaints alleging that officers are not available in government offices.
“Mere putting signature does not amount to discharging duty. People designated for public service should be at their service during the stipulated hours,” he said.
Poor quality food
Udayashankar further said farmers had complained that bribing had become inevitable to get subsidy from Sericulture Department. “There are complaints that poor quality food is being served in hostels and officers are not attending Gram Panchayat meetings. Immediate steps should be taken to redress these complaints,” he said.
The Taluk Panchayat president directed the authorities to instruct contractors to provide quality food to hostel inmates and to initiate action against those who fail to fall in line.
He advised the officers to cultivate the practice of submitting a comprehensive report on the progress achieved at review meetings. “The objective of the meeting will not be served in the absence of such report,” said Taluk Panchayat executive officer A Manjunath. TP vice-president T V Jayalakshmi was present.
