As part of their industrial tour, the third-semester students of Seshadripuram Institute of Management Studies got an opportunity to visit a paint industry, a chocolate jelly manufacturing unit and a popular cold drinks industry in Pune and Goa.

Bhavani, a teacher, who accompanied the students, informs that the students learnt a lot and key skills like team building, time management and networking were demonstrated to them during the trip.

“Apart from bonding with their classmates and having fun, students were exposed to different facets of an industry. They were not only shown the basics of how a particular industry functions but also given explanations on the challenges an industry faces,” she notes.

It was a fun-filled trip for the students and more than 100 of them turned up for it. They note that it was a memorable trip for all of them as this is their final year.

“After we get placed, we will not be able to meet all our friends very frequently. Visiting three different industries gave us an idea about how they function.

We were shown how a product is manufactured right from the scratch. We were able to observe the procedures step by step and the most amazing part was that the environment of one industry was very different from the other. So there was something new that we learnt from each industry.

The five-day tour also gave us time to visit these two cities and spend time with our friends and teachers,” says Manjush, a student.

Presentations on different topics and team-building activities like games etc were also a part of the visit.

Students say that they were able to apply their theoretical knowledge and understood certain subjects like labour efficiency better.

Bharath, a student, adds, “The managers and spokespersons of each of these industries showed us the structure of different departments and how they are managed. I am sure what we learnt during the visit will help us in the future when we become managers.

The best part about the trip was the time spent with friends and we have quite a few memories of the trip. We interacted with some of our classmates whom we had never spoken to. It brought us closer as a team and as a class,” he details.
