Mine owner from Bellary Tapal Ganesh has alleged that the Samaja Parivarthana Samudaya (SPS) was misusing foreign funds to carry out its crusade against corruption.

At a press conference here on Thursday, Ganesh, who too had campaigned against the mining mafia, said Rs 3.13 lakh of the Indian funds and Rs 42,702 of foreign funds were diverted by the SPS to fight mining-related cases in the courts.

He said these funds were meant for the welfare of poor, destitute and downtrodden. “Such diversion of funds is illegal as per the rules,” he alleged.

He cited the audit report by chartered accountant P G Bhagwat of Dharwad which reportedly states that the Foreign Act has been violated as the funds were supposed to be utilised for social welfare.

The funds were kept in the banks as fixed deposit and interest accrued on them was used for campaign against illegal mining. Ganesh said he would approach Chief Minister Siddaramaiah seeking a CBI probe into the alleged misuse of funds.
