Raids expose irregularities in BBMP office

The chairperson and members of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike's (BBMP) standing committee for accounts on Thursday carried out a surprise inspection of the office of assistant director, town planning, BBMP's east zone and found many alleged irregularities.

The committee members found that the officers were not present in the office and the attendance register was not maintained properly. The members were irked when the assistant director dilly-dallied in giving them files.

While inspecting files they noticed irregularities in cash and receipt book, bank pass sheet and procurement book, plan sanction register and related documents, register related to occupancy certificates and commencement certificates, replies to last year's audit report and documents showing labour cess receipts.

When the members carried out an inspection of the revenue officer, they found demand drafts worth Rs 60 lakh kept in the officer's drawer, which was kept there for more than one-and-a-half month without depositing them in the bank. Immediately, the Joint Commissioner of the BBMP East Zone ordered suspension of the revenue officer.
