An emotionally draining experience

The much-talked about movie, Shahid has hit the screens and although it’s not the usual Bollywood potboiler, the film seems to have caught the fancy of movie buffs. And Rajkumar better known as Raj, is thrilled that his role of Shahid in Shahid has been well-received by the people.

Although it was an emotionally draining experience, Rajkumar dubs his character in the film as ‘raw and gripping’. He confesses that he was totally involved with the character and the ‘real element’ attached to the story made it all the more interesting. “It’s a true story of a man named Shahid who fought for the rights of innocent boys, who were wrongly accused in a lot of cases. I had to spend a lot of time learning and analysing the character of Shahid, his ideology and philosophy. This is one role that will stay with me for a long time,” Rajkumar tells Metrolife.

He feels that actors can give their own little twist to fictional characters but real stories have to be portrayed with a sense of responsibility. “I’ve really pushed the boundaries of my creativity for this character and am proud of the story and its honest style of narration,” he adds.

Rajkumar had always wanted to be an actor and worked towards it since his college days. He started his career in 2010 with Love Sex aur Dhokha and followed it up with ‘Ragini MMS’, Shaitan, Gangs of Wasseypur 2, Chittagong and Talaash. The 29-year-old Kai Po Che star states that he is grateful that he’s getting to do different characters on screen. “Every movie has something new to offer. I am playing several characters in just one life,” Rajkumar notes.

Rajkumar observes that if one is dedicated towards whatever one is doing, then he or she will be successful. “You have to be dedicated and committed to the task at hand. This will pave the way for your dream and strength your endeavour towards it,” he says rather philosophically.

Rajkumar will soon be seen in the role of a lover boy in his next film ‘Queen’, opposite Kangna Ranaut.
